Global Cough Leaders Meet in London
Dr. Mandel Sher is back fresh from the Ninth International Symposium on Cough held in London from June 29th through July 1, 2016. The international symposium was organized by Professor Kian Fan Chung, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the National Heart & Lung Institute of the Imperial College London. The symposium attracts global cough leaders in the treatment of cough and scientific cough research.
The 3-day symposium held on the Royal Brompton Hospital campus included around 50 physicians and scientists from Australia, Britain, China, Ireland, Japan, and the United States.
The global cough leaders gathered to review and discuss:
- Current management of patients with chronic cough
- Underlying causes of chronic cough
- Latest research findings
- Current and future treatments of cough
Dr. Sher is already looking forward to participating in the 2017 American Cough Conference chaired by Dr. Peter Dicpinigaitis, Professor of Clinical Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Director of the Montefiore Cough Center in New York. The International Symposium on Cough and American Cough Conference alternate years, so the next cough meeting will be in the United States.
The International Symposium on Cough was started by Professor John Widdicombe in 1999. Professor Widdicombe is regarded as one of the world’s foremost authorities on cough beginning with his early days at Oxford through his death in 2011. The International Symposium on Cough and American Cough Conference honor Dr. Widdicombe’s legacy with a lecture and/or award named in his honor.
